What A Difference A Clean Fridge Makes

IMG_2563This will be my last unscheduled post for at least a week.  I just couldn’t stay away!  🙂

As many of you know, I am in the middle of moving.  In fact, moving day is this Saturday.  Weirdo-me is cleaning all the appliances before moving.  I wiped down the washer and dryer and am half-way done cleaning out the fridge.

Should I tell you this?  It’s sort of embarrassing.  Well… maybe it’ll help someone else.  Our garage is dark and dank, and that’s where we had to put the washer and dryer in this house.  It’s not like I’m a super gross, messy person either!  When I was wiping down the washer, I decided to clean out the little drawer where the detergent goes.  I pulled it out and…. Mold.

W. T. F-ing. F???

It was in the compartment where the fabric softener is poured and in the space where the drawer goes on that particular side only .  I don’t use fabric softener anymore, and I haven’t for quite some time.  The detergent I use now has natural stuff in it that acts as a softener.

That blue softener I used to use would clog up that compartment, and it used to piss me off.  Now that blue softener pisses me off even more because I am almost definitely sure that’s the cause of the mold.

So I had to scrub.  And scrub.  And scrub.  Until my OCD-self was pleased with the cleaning results.  I never would have known it was there if I hadn’t pulled the drawer out.

Anyway, back to my fridge.  It was like a breath of fresh air!  I only finished the door last night – hence, only the picture of the door.  I took off all the shelves and washed them lovingly by hand.  I threw out all the gross, expired stuff and cleaned the bottoms of the remaining jars and containers.  Then I put everything back and…

It was so pretty!

Hey, I take pleasure in the little things.  As most of us moms know, the fridge has the ability to turn into quite the disgusting creature.  Many of us don’t have the time to clean it properly, wiping it down thoroughly and hand-washing drawers and shelves.

But we actually should find the time, as we do some other things when pressed.  I remember reading articles about how unhealthy a dirty fridge can be.  And when I think about it, yeah, I should have cleaned my fridge sooner.

All those crumbs and spilled liquids had been there for I don’t know how long.  That’s old food.  Old food breeds bacteria.  We don’t eat old food because it’s rotten, breeding bacteria, promoting mold growth, and it’ll make us ill.  And because that’s just gross.

I used to clean our fridge on a regular basis when we lived at our previous house.  *sigh*  There are a lot of things I’ve put by the wayside living in this house.

Now when I open the fridge, it’s like I hear an angel choir singing and light shining down from the heavens.  Everything seems so bright and shiny; whereas before, my fridge was not a pretty or appetizing sight.

Wait.  I make it seem as though my fridge should have been condemned and demolished.  It wasn’t that gross.  It was normal dirty, if that makes sense.

Anyway, it puts a smile on my face when I open my fridge now.

Help Me Save My Life Too..

Hello All,

As most of you know I have been taking care of two households, 3 kids, 3 dogs and myself.  Well, I forgot about myself.  NOT good.

My support system is small but incredible.  I have MJ, of course, but sometimes I don’t want to lay it all on her.  She is part of this family, she is in AZ, I’m in WA, and I don’t want to stress her out.  She loves me and I love her.  I joke about secondary trauma, but it’s real and sometimes the people you talk to love you so much what you tell them hurts them also.  I would never hurt her.  BUT she is strong, always my rock, and I hope she knows no matter what is going on I am always her rock too.

To get to the point now..MY FEET HURT!  My heels, the very back hurt so bad I can’t lay them on the bed, or rest them on anything.  I wake up in the middle of the night with my heals feeling like they  are on FIRE actual freakin’ fire people.  WTH??  I think I have been doing some repetitive motion (haha..don’t go there!!) that I am unaware of that has caused damage to some tendons or something..I obviously don’t know..which means I should see the professional.  It’s been going on for about a month now.  Yes I changed shoes.  They don’t have a back, which sucks because it won’t stop RAINING here and now my feet get wet too..AAAHHHHH!!!Image

I also am sore all over.  I need to walk, exercise and make my jewelry.  I CAN’T WAIT to send MJ her box, that will be this weekend.  For real..seriously.  I hope she likes the earrings and her daughter likes the bracelet.

I need to eat better.

I KNOW what I am supposed to do, it’s like I need someone to remind me.  I am still putting my “face” on and everyone says “You look great!” but I feel like crap, and tired.  Hey, at least I don’t look like I feel, there’s a consolation.

I’m just scared that I’m not paying attention to certain things.  This foot (feet) thing is so painful I will call my doctor.  It’s just weird too.

They are coming home today for the last time.  After this weekend Mike and Nichole will be on “lock down” at the Hutch.  I pray every day for strength for Mike.  I give up my pain for his strength.

My grandma STILL isn’t cremated yet..uugh.  That’s weighing on me also.

I miss my daughter.  She is with her dad and grandpa, she calls her grandpa “Poppop”..I call him Poppop.  He is wonderful, always there to help her and my family.

I didn’t mean to whine or anything.  Just needed to vent.  I know I’m supposed to write about beauty or natural products, but I just had to sanitize the house with Lysol and bleach because one of the kids was so much for natural products when it comes to this.  Mike has no immune system so I can’t mess around.

Take Care All,

How To De-Stink Your Bathroom Naturally

IMG_2406Nobody poops but you. No, wait. That’s not it. What’s the name of that book? Oh, yeah. Everyone Poops.

Everybody poops. Everyone farts. Every family member and friend has the potential to stink up your bathroom. But what do you do when you’re trying to rid your home of chemicals? How do you freshen up your bathroom without Glade or Lysol sprays?

This is all you’ll need AND it’s cheap!

1 cup baking soda
10-20 drops essential oil

I use a small decorative container that I put up high on a shelf, but you could just tear open a small box of baking soda and put it anywhere in the bathroom.

We use frankincense in one bathroom and a mixture of lemongrass and eucalyptus in the other bathroom. I get the oils at Sprouts, and I usually wait until there is a 25% off sale plus use any coupons if I can find any.

Just dump the baking soda into your container (if you’re using one), and place the oil(s) next to the container. When the bathroom gets rank, just place 10 to 20 drops into the baking soda. No noxious fumes or chemicals to worry about. Replace the baking soda every couple of months.

I’ve read about making a natural spray, but that would require me to purchase a spritzing bottle and more work to make the solution. If you try it, let me know how it goes and if it’s worth the effort.

This is much easier, and the baking soda and essential oils can be used for other homemade natural products.
